Fall Dinner Recap

The LOMA Society of the Twin Cities held its 2012 Fall Recognition Dinner Meeting on October 2nd at Securian Financial group in Saint Paul.  Throughout the evening donations were collected for the Emergency Foodshelf Network, a nonprofit food bank that collects, warehouses, and distributes quality food and essential services to Minnesota hunger relief organizations.

Attendees enjoyed a social hour prior to the start of the meeting.  After dinner the Society President, Julie Printz, welcomed everyone to the event, introduced herself and the members of the board, and then conducted a brief business meeting.  The attendees confirmed the 2013 slate of officers:

  • President - Julie Printz (Thrivent Financial for Lutherans)
  • Vice President & Scholarship Committee Chair - Rolf T. Anderson (New York Life)
  • Secretary & Program Committee Chair - Claudia Wiebold (Securian Financial Group)
  • Treasurer - Leah Reckin-Mahoney (Securian Financial Group)
  • Past President - Dixie Carroll (Ameriprise Financial)

Additionally, the following individuals will serve the Society for the 2013 term:

  • Communications Committee Chair - Barb Prinz (Ameriprise Financial)
  • Member at Large - Robin Holicky (Prudential)
  • Member at Large - Tyler Akerlind (New York Life)

On behalf of the 2012 Scholarship Committee, Rolf Anderson announced that this year's recipient of the LOMA Society's $500 scholarship is Jessica Goodsell.  Jessica has been studying mathematics and recently focused her efforts on earning a degree in accounting.  Jessica’s mother, Kimberly Goodsell, a Compliance Officer at RiverSource Life Insurance Company accepted the scholarship check for her daughter.

The keynote speaker was Robert Ehren, Senior Vice President, Life Product Manufacturing for Securian Financial Group.  The focus of his presentation was the current low interest rate environment and the impact it is having on the life insurance and products.

After the presentation, the 2012 LOMA designees were presented with certificates and pins.  Once all of the designees had been recognized Julie Printz thanked everyone for attending, door prizes were awarded, and the meeting closed at 8pm.

Holidazzle Parade

On a cool crisp December evening LOMA Society representatives gathered on Nicollet Mall in downtown Minneapolis to walk in the Holidazzle parade.  We helped to gather food and monetary donations to benefit the Emergency Foodshelf Network.  We had a great time and look forward to seeing you next year!

Our Website Has a New Look & Feel

The LOMA Society of the Twin Cities is ringing in the new year with a new look and feel. Over the last year, the Communications Committee along with the Board of Directors explored ways to enhance how society news and information is delivered. The result was the creation of a new website at a new address. The society's new virtual home is located at The previous address of will remain active throughout 2013 and will be retired in December. The change to a .org address better suits the purpose and nature of the society.

This new website, along with the new look & feel, will bring with it many new opportunities for sharing information in a variety of formats such as a calendar, photo albums, and video all in addition to the same content that you have had access to in the past.

We have only begun exploring the new and exciting features available and are looking forward to making further enhancements in the future. We hope you enjoy the new website and find it helpful and easy to use!

If you have any suggestions or feedback, we would love to hear from you!  Please send your comments to the Communications Committee at

President’s Summary

Greetings Members!

The LOMA Society of the Twin Cities Board of Directors just held their annual planning meeting. We reviewed our goals from last year and evaluated LAST YEAR'S results.  In 2012, we concentrated on providing value for members by reacting to our membership survey results, trying a new networking event and launching a new website. Two of our board members attended the annual LOMA conference last September to connect with other society boards and gather ideas and best practices for our own society. In addition, we welcomed two new members to the board: Tyler Akerlind of New York Life and Robin Holicky of Prudential.

Planning for 2013 involved updating our goals. This year our focus will be on:

  1. Increasing membership, participation and engagement in the LOMA Society of the Twin Cities.
  2. Continuing to improve our communication with members.
  3. Working on development of the board and bringing in fresh perspectives.
  4. Engaging leadership at our member companies.

As members we invite you to reach out to the board members with your ideas, and don’t forget about inviting your managers to events. If you want us to send them a personal invite to the next event, please let us know.

Best wishes on a successful year of personal growth,

Julie Printz

President, LOMA Society of the Twin Cities
